Common Mergansers on Chickadee Lake


At this time of year, Common Mergansers gather on Chickadee Lake in the evening to sleep and disperse to the ocean shorelines during the morning. Quite a spactacle!

Orca pod in Baynes Sound

Beaver caught in broad daylight!

A pair of lively beavers was seen in Railway Marsh this week in broad daylight. Lets hope they stay so that I can learn a little about dam construction.

Railway Marsh Trumpeter Swans

This fine pair of Trumpeter Swans was seen on Railway Marsh this Tuesday during the weekly swan count. About 15-20 swans are wintering on Denman before flying back to their breeding grounds in the Yukon and Alaska.

Bald Eagle Feast



As the snow melted, the bodies of two young deer emerged behind my garage. They had apparently starved during the prolonged snowy spell in December and early January. I moved these bodies into the open so that the eagles could have ready access and I could get some photographs. It was 5 days before the eagles started to eat this feast.
